Turquoise is one of the oldest stones worked by human hands, with archaeological evidence documenting its mining in the Sinai Peninsula more than six thousand years ago, making it among the most ancient continuously worked stones in human history.
The ancient Egyptians called it mefkat, meaning joy and delight, and it was among the most beloved and widely used stones in the entire culture.
Every civilization that looked at this stone saw the same sky, and understood that wearing it was a way of carrying heaven close to the body.
Each Mefkat hoop is individually wire-wrapped and hand-hammered in your choice of sterling silver, brass, or copper, making every piece a one-of-a-kind wearable talisman. Turquoise carries a color unlike almost any other stone on earth, a blue-green that shifts between the sky at noon and the sea at its clearest, alive and luminous and impossible to look away from.
