The ancient Greeks called it the pomegranate stone because of the way its deep red crystal clusters mirror the seeds of the fruit that bound Persephone to her return each year. From that myth forward, garnet became the stone of bonds that cannot be broken, of love that survives separation, and of the kind of strength that brings you back to yourself no matter how far you have traveled from home. Roman soldiers wore garnet amulets into battle believing the stone protected them from wounds and guided them safely back. Norse warriors placed garnets on the bodies of the fallen to light their way through darkness to the other side. Medieval travelers carried it on long journeys believing it illuminated the road ahead and kept evil at bay. In Hindu tradition it has been connected for centuries to the root chakra, the seat of safety, grounding, and the primal will to survive and return.
